•• Had it all been worth it? Exhaustion was wracking her muscles, making them quiver at the physical exertion their battle had had on her body. She was incredibly fit and healthy but she did not have a muscular, masculine body. She was only five foot seven, a mere one hundred and eight pounds. She was slender and feminine. Thusly she relied heavily on her enhanced fitness ability when it came to fights such as this. She was powerful, yes, but the more she did things that pushed her physically farther than her body was capable of, the more swiftly her energy was depleted. And the ferocity and power she had put into her attacks...
•• But it looked like she had not done so for naught as her green-blue eyes gazed at Ares challengingly, proud and defiant of the fact that she, someone who was constantly underestimated, had managed something she herself hadn’t thought she could manage. But she was far from cocky. She had only won by luck. If she hadn’t managed to sink her teeth into Ares’ shoulder, she would have been toast at this point. This was a sobering fact, as well as the fact that her muscles were complaining at this abuse. Randomly, she found herself wishing for a soothing bubble bath.
•• Ares blinked at her as he found himself with her blade pressed lightly to his throat. She hadn’t known what to expect... but what happened next had definitely not been it... Before her eyes his eyes turned solid black, as if they were all pupil. Uncertain what to expect, she found herself bracing herself... And was glad that she had because suddenly pain exploded through her body. Zephyra let out a strangled hiss of breathe as she found herself gritting her teeth. “What...” Through the pain that clouded her mind, a pain that her restoration could do nothing against as it was entirely mental, she pulled on her spell-casting and muttered a butchered version of the shielding spell she had used earlier. A blue shield appeared around her, flickering and sputtering to life. As it was a powerful magical attack battering against her shield and she was still recovering from the drain on her body, it only managed to lessen the pain and make her able to grit her teeth and stand through it.
•• The shield continued to flicker around Zephyra as he accosted her. So close to her goal though, the red-head held her ground. Her blade had dropped to her side though and she merely took the pain, let it roll through her body, gritted her teeth against it. Slightly confused though, Zephyra reached out with her clairsentience but quickly recoiled at the fury and mental pain that was rushing through him. Whatever it had been, something had obviously hit a sore spot for him. Abruptly the pain abated and Zephyra found herself breathing heavily, blue-green eyes fixed on Ares. His powerful body shuddered, the sword clattering to the stone at his feet. His face was downturned and Zephyra was silent, unsure what to say. She felt spent after that last mental attack and found herself merely taking deep breathes, gulping down air and slowly calming her racing heart.
•• Then something unexpected happened. Ares, this powerful deity, her equal in every way, dropped to his knees before her, ducking his head, his body shaking violently for a course of several moments. Into the silence, in the quietest of whispers, he spoke a single word. Mercy. Zephyra stuck her blade into the sheath at her hip. Bending down and took a gentle but firm grip of his arm and tried to pull him to his feet. “There is no need for that,” she murmured. “I’m inclined, in fact, to call this a tie... The bite and the toxin had probably been a low blow... She found herself wondering what had happened if she hadn’t done it...

~ VLADIMIR DRACULA TEPES ~
The battle had taken more out of him than he had expected it to when he had arrived. Of course when he had arrived he had also been expecting to fight a naïve young male not a millennia old deity that could hold their own against him. His blood continued to feel as if her were boiling over a raging fire as her venom coursed through his veins. What he needed was some time where he wasn’t fighting an opponent where he could allow most of his leftover energy to heal himself from the toxin. Then came the arrows, burrowing themselves deep within his flesh as they were loosed from her bow. It was more abuse than he wished to take or could take without loosing more of his ruthless warrior nature than he had been. Vlad had been holding his nature back, not his fighting skills but how he treated the fight, he made sure he remembered it was not a life or death situation or anything more than a relatively friendly fight. He had earlier thought that the pain-synthesis ability would be similar to cheating and unfair however as he lost himself to the memories his body and self gave no care to those earlier thoughts. There he was losing himself to times long gone as the ability swept out from himself to target her.
As if from a distance he heard her hiss and the word ‘What’ an yet his mind didn’t quite recognize what that meant and even if it did he didn’t care, and he wasn’t quite there either. When he finally came back to himself he immediately realized what he had done to her, the pain he had caused her. He abruptly put an end to it and once more put his ability back to a dormant mode before dropping to his knees before her. Violently shaking, he kept his eyes downcast, avoiding looking at her for the moment. Mercy, the word he had never had use for before, had never had to say himself. In the silence he could hear her breathing clearly and focused on it for the moment, distracting himself with the rhythm of it. The vampire felt her fingers wrap around his arm as she attempted to pull him to his feet and yet he remained kneeling there, barely budging. Drawing in a deep, and rather unnecessary, breath himself he finally raised himself up onto his feet and leveled his gaze at her, his eyes an almost seemingly grey pale blue hue.
“A tie…” he murmured blandly, his personality rather hidden away for the moment. He had only wrongly harmed women once before and that had been when he had slaughtered his family and friends. True, they had been fighting each other but that had been no cause to put his ability of pain-synthesis to use. First he had been cast into memories of battles long gone and now hovering on the edge of his mind was the night he had awoken to find himself holding his wife and coated in her and many others’ blood. Sighing he attempted to act more normal than he was at the moment. “Then neither of us owes the other anything.” he finally concluded. As he stood there still he could finally feel his healing ability kick into gear once again and actually begin to relieve his pain from the poison. As he continued to look directly at her he reached down, first to his arm and then to his leg, and harshly yanked the arrows out of his body before dropping them to join the rubble on the ground.
Vladimir reached down and swung his sword up to his shoulder to lay it to rest there. The holes from the arrows were nearly healed now and were merely two angry red marks on his skin at the moment. He stared at her for several more moments in silence. She was absolutely stunning, even after spending so much energy and effort on fighting him. Over the years he had always found women who could handle themselves in a fight rather attractive. Of course her beauty alone was a thing of wonder in itself. Her hair, he would and had never forget that stunning shade of red. How he would have liked the chance to get to know her better but it didn’t seem like that was likely to happen. Besides who would want to be close to him? He had a complicated history to say the least and even nowadays had his moments of fury or grief that would scare most beings away. Slowly Vladimir turned away and began to walk away, one step at a time. When he reached the columns that lined the edge of the Parthenon he called out over his shoulder, not turning around. “It was nice seeing you again…. “ he paused briefly, ”Aphrodite” he finished lamely, after all he had never learned her actual name.

•• When it became clear that Ares did not intend to get up, Zephyra released his arm with a soft sigh. She had let her anger get the better of her in the end. But wasn’t that normal? That pain incited a lack of reason in beings? She had felt like an injured animal... and had lashed out like one at the nearest being like one. That was no excuse, she told herself, but at the same time, it was a reason. But at the same time her pride refused to let herself speak of her thoughts. Instead, she focused on Ares and his response.
•• His bland tone gave her pause, but then she realized that he felt similar to how she felt, probably; tired, spent, and a little irritable after she had put poison in his veins. She found herself regretting her words though that it was a tie when he said that that meant that neither of them owed the other anything. But where’s the fun in that!? I would have at least wanted something for this... But she kept her thoughts to herself as it became clear that this was going to be the parting of their ways. It seemed like a disappointment... that they should part ways like this. But what was she to do? He appeared to want to be alone now...
•• Zephyra watched silently as he stood, reached down, and yanked the arrows from his flesh, letting the black shafts drop to the ground. She resisted the will to flinch as they were torn from his flesh. He swung his sword up to his shoulder to rest there even as his wounds healed themselves. They stared at one another for several moments in silence. What was she to say? What was he to say? Perhaps this was for the best. Could anything good really come from them being together? Two deities of war? Disappointment filled her regardlessly as Ares turned and began to move away. Blue-green eyes followed him, a sad look in them. Should she say something? Should she stop him?
•• As she stood there indecisively, Ares called over his shoulder to her. “It was nice seeing you too... My name is Zephyra by the way.” The last was said softly, almost as if on second thought, she was saying it to herself rather than out loud. With a half-hearted sigh, she transformed into a dragon, her beloved, glistening blood red form. Her head turned up towards the sky. She hesitated for a moment as if debating, but then leapt up into the air, her powerful bat-like wings beating against the ground, raising a cloud of dust as she moved up into the air, quickly gaining momentum.
•• Up in the air, her hawk-like eyes glanced down at the ground where Ares was. The dragon in her reared to life. Fuck this shit. I won that battle fair and square and I’m going to get my reward. Twisting in the air and performing a nice spiral, Zephyra dove toward the ground, her wings curled tightly against her sides before snapping open at the last second. Her large, clawed hand scooped Ares up from the ground and she took off once more. “Sorry sexy, but I decided to claim my prize. We may be equals in a battle but I won that one and I’m not about to let you just walk away all melodramatic.” Soaring up into the sky, a soft laugh tore from deep within her chest, “Now you have the option. Are you coming willingly and want to ride on my back and let me show you how fun dragons are or do I need to hold you hostage and carry you like a princess of old?” she asked.
•• Whether he liked it or not, she was going to get to know him better. They hadn’t crossed paths in several millennia. She wasn’t going to wait several more to meet him again.

~ VLADIMIR DRACULA TEPES ~
It was rather disappointing for neither of them to gain anything from this taxing fight but he could deal with it. As if it were an everyday activity he reached down and pulled the arrows from his flesh, dropping them at his feet instead. When he was leaving Vladimir called out to her and began to continue on his way when he paused. “Zephyra…” he whispered to himself, testing how it felt to say her name. His lips quirked up in a smile, but he was still turned away from her. Smiling to himself he once again headed on his way. Perhaps he should have told her his own name in return but it hadn’t occurred to him at the moment. He tried to console himself with the idea that it would be better for them to part anyways. Two deities of their age and power, let alone skill, would probably only cause trouble and chaos if they were together for too long. Let alone if they were to fight with each other truly.
As he was walking he paused and looked up into the sky as he heard a rustle of noise behind him. Looking up into the sky he saw the form of a draconic creature gliding through the sky. Looking behind himself he found that Zephyra was gone from where she stood. Glancing up again he wondered for a moment if it might perhaps be her that was gliding through the sky. Before he could think much about it he saw the creature dive towards him suddenly. Any sane person probably would have run and yet he stood there fairly sure that the dragon was Zephyra herself.
Before he knew it Vladimir felt claws clench down on him and lift him up into the sky. Knowing it would do little good to struggle he merely tried his best to stay mostly upright in her grip. When she spoke his suspicions that it was Zephyra herself was confirmed. He raised an eyebrow at her opening words but stayed silent as she kept talking. He chuckled himself as she gave him his options. “How about you put me on your back and show me what you’ve got dragon girl.”
