•• Peering out into the setting sun, Zephyra found herself thinking about things that she had rather not remember. It had not even been a year since that incident in Crete where she had gained her dragon form and had caused the huge volcanic eruption that destroyed most of the island and made it inhabitable. And for what? No more than her heart breaking. At the time it had seemed justified, reasonable, suited to the betrayal of her heart. But now? She found herself feeling rather bad, guilty even. Yes all those people had hurt her, had shunned her, had called her a witch and tried to burn her at the stake no matter how much she tried to help them, to heal their sick and help their wounded. But for what? All for naught.
•• People always treated her as if she was an evil spirit to be shunned. At least in Egypt she had been treated with respect and people had not dared cross her. They had feared her... but they had loved her too, had they not? Or was the only way she would ever be treated well was if she inspired fear in the hearts of others? Perhaps she should try being a deity again. It had been fun to dance in the awe and fear of the Egyptian people. But at the same time... Zephyra hated this... this... whole situation! Why couldn’t people just like her? It wasn’t like she was evil... But deep inside of her, part of her wanted to be evil, to stop trying so hard to be nice and just let her wrath flow over the people and just have what they thought of her be true.
•• Orange-red flames flickered in the cavern Zephyra sat curled up against the wall in, dressed in a deep red chiton - a full length dress that was typically worn by Grecian women in the time, made out of a light, sheer fabric made from silk, a fabric which she had been told was called chiffon. Just below her breasts, she had tied a golden girdle so that the fabric fell loosely over her body without showing too much but still emphasizing her femininity by emphasizing her breasts. Call it shallow, but Zeph cared a great deal about how she looked sometimes. She liked feeling pretty and feminine. It gave her a confidence boost and always seemed to lift her spirits, especially when she spun around and the sheer fabric of her dress would swirl and spin.
•• Blue-green eyes moved away from the opening to the orange-red flames a mere two feet from where she was. The heat was comforting to her and she forced a small smile. Pushing herself up, Zephyra made a motion with her hand to the fire which extinguished from the ground into a little plume of smoke and then reappeared as a ball hovering a few inches above her hand, illuminating the passage that lead farther into the mountain. The cave opening was very high up with a sheer drop down. There was only one narrow, dangerous path that lead up to it with a very high chance of falling to one’s death. And if someone managed to get up that, the first cavern, the one she had been sitting in, gazing out over the forests and mountains below, looked like nothing special. In fact, if anything, it looked ominous and black with sharp, jagged walls and stalagmites. So far, she had not had any trouble with anyone trying to intrude.
•• Near the back of the cavern, three tunnels lead deep into the mountain. They were a confusing maze of dead-ends and pitfalls. Zephyra took the left passage and did a couple turns here and there before then took an immediate right through a crack in the side of the tunnel. Her ball of fire grew larger and moved to the ceiling of the cavern she had entered, illuminating the previously pitch black space. With her dragon fire she had melted the walls and smoothed them out so that the cavern was a smooth dome with glossy black walls. A large comfy bed with a blue blanket and matching goose-feather pillows was pushed against one wall and several different articles of furniture decorated the cavern; a lounge, a book case full of books she had collected, as well as a cabinet that, if she were to open it, was filled with knives, daggers, swords, axes, and just about any type of weapon that had been invited at the time.
•• Passing through this room, Zephyra pushed in a seemingly random stone that stuck out ever so slightly beside this cabinet. Part of the wall moved away and she stepped through. A few more passages and she came into a huge chamber filled with all sorts of expensive, shiny things - expensive gem stones, staffs, goblets of the finest gold, silver grows with sapphires in them, emerald encrusted swords and daggers and gold coins. Just about everything one could imagine filled the room, scattered across the ground or set neatly against the walls of the cavern. At the center of the room was a huge mound of gold coins and rocks of gemstones. She slept on that pile when she was feeling particularly depressed. Bending down, Zephyra picked up a crown she had stolen from a Germanic princess the day before and turned back around, heading to her bed room.
•• Picking up a polishing cloth and laying down on the soft fluffy pillows of her bed, Zephyra went to work on polishing the delicate beauty. A diamond in the shape of a tear drop sat on the front of the crown with three sapphires set around it, set in the shiny sterling silver. The crown reflected in her blue-green eyes and a smile lifted her pink lips as she stared into the shiny, reflective surface. Reaching out a finger, she ran it over the gem stones. A soft humming sound started from within her chest, not all that different from the purring of a cat, as she stroked one alabaster finger over the edges of the crown and then back to the teardrop diamond. So beautiful...

[/b][/i] [style=font-family: times; letter-spacing: 1px; font-size: 9px; color: #cc3300;] He’d rode hard that day, pushing his horse faster than need be. Air rushed in and out of the beast’s lungs as he tapped his heels once more against its sides, urging it forward at a canter. The great stallion’s head bobbed up and down with each movement, tail flicking to touch against his rider’s legs. A squeal rose up from the horse as Kato urged it into a gallop, requesting speed that the animal wasn’t sure it could give him. Giving a half-hearted buck, the stud picked up his pace, wheezing with the effort while a strong hand came down and stroked across his sweat dampened neck, a gesture of encouragement that the horse took to heart and with new found energy, shot forward and raced cross the flatlands towards the caverns that Kato had heard so much. A smile turned up the corners of his lips and he sat proud and strong in his saddle as his mind went over the interesting details that were given to him by the town’s folk along his travels. A dragon they’d said and he’s wanted to laugh. He was more than positive that it wasn’t just a dragon and as such, he would get his answers.
The dragon’s home loomed in front of him and the overly brave warrior’s smile deepened. Yet, his soul was tinged in fear. What would he find here? Would he find a horrible beast that would rain fire over his head? Or would he find something beyond his wildest dreams? Giving his head a firm shake, he moved focused on the things that he should be doing. Kato couldn’t let his mind wonder off like that. He had things he need to pay attention to right now and getting distracted was not the way to go about completing his mission. He focused inwardly for a moment and was just there, a being of light and flesh and blood. He drew in a deep even breath and then released it slowly, letting it slow as his horse galloped onward. He was ready for anything, or at least that was what he told himself. He was as strong as one like him could be, though he could use a little more practice with that powers that he seemed able to use at a moment’s notice. Kato shoved those thoughts aside; he didn’t need to be thinking about that right this minute.
Kato hadn’t been expecting his horse to come to a sudden sliding stop before proceeding to buck like there was no tomorrow. Wide eyes cased about him as he pulled his horses head around to touch his leg, forcing the beast to stop his wild bucking spree and instead focus on not falling over, even if Kato had taken his leg out of the stirrup so that if the beast of burden did go tumbling over, he could easily avoid it, not that he wanted his mount to get hurt. Finally, the beast came to a halt, head still turned tight to the side and breathing as though its life depended on it. With that, Kato dismounted and tied his horse to a nearby tree. Turning to face the obstacle before him, Kato ran a hand through his short, curly hair and thought for a moment about what he was going to do. He couldn’t very well just walk in there, all armored up and sword drawn, that would get him roasted in a matter of moments, so he paused, sitting down not far from his horse to think over his plan of action. He closed his eyes and went into his mind.
An idea came to him and his eyes opened, glittering brightly as he smiled to himself and rose form the ground. He took off at a jog towards the caverns, but the closer he got, the slower he went, making sure that his armor didn’t make any clinking noises. Sucking in a deep breath, he peeked into the cave, glancing around to see if anything or anyone was in there. It was empty as could be and he raised an eyebrow as he moved into the open space. Kato turned his gaze to the ground, searching for the most used passage. It was easy enough to find, but he found something odd with the way it looked. It didn’t look as though a dragon has passed through here, it looked more like a human had walked this path many time over and not a very large human at that. Still, he moved deeper into this place of unknown mysteries, feeling a growing excitement as he walked on silent feet towards whatever lay within the next cavernous space. He glanced around once more and feeling rather bold, took a step further into this new space.
Kato came to a sudden pause as his eyes lit on a beautiful woman, not a dragon at all. He tilted his head to one side, but didn’t allow his emotions to show on his features as he took a step further into this room. He glanced about, taking in all that he found as he spoke, words he was surprised to hear from him, “Well, now, this isn’t what I was expecting to find when I was told there was a dragon living here.” His eyes traveled back to the woman and looking her over, eyes narrowed as he stood ready, prepared to defend himself if the need arose, one hand resting against his sword hilt. His eye fell onto the crown in her hands and a small smile curved his lips as he spoke again, voice velvet smooth, “And that certainly isn’t yours, my lady.” Even if Kato looked relaxed and at ease, he was ready for anything, eyes locked on her and waiting for her to make whatever move she would dare to make against him. He shifted from foot to foot, not allowing his uneasiness to show. That would be his downfall if he showed her his unease, she would surely use it against him.

•• The purring hum that came from her chest came to an abrupt stop as a sound caught her attention. Pointed elven ears quirked to attention and she tipped her head, listening intently. The soft sound of footsteps accompanied by the sound of friction against cloth became apparent. A slight feeling of surprise filled her as she eyed the entrance into the cavern she considered her bed chamber. It certainly couldn’t be a human... Humans made more noise moving and their breathing was louder and heavier. Pursing her lips, Zephyra debated her options - she could vanish through one of her secret exits through which he could not follow and hide until he left... or she could wait and see what happened. She hadn’t had any action in a while and the idea of crossing paths with another more-than-human was an amusing notion.
•• Decision made, Zephyra tucked her legs under herself, brushed a few stray strands of her fire red hair behind her ear and continued polishing the crown. She was silent in her actions, pretending to be bedazzled by the crown when in reality she had all her senses on alert for when the intruder would arrive. It didn’t take him too long. Perhaps fifteen minutes or so and then the male appeared in the entrance. Zeph didn’t bother even feigning surprise. He would have been stupid to think he would catch her off guard in her own home. Slowly the redhead lifted her face to meet the intruder with bright blue-green eyes. A smile curved at her lips and she tipped her head to the side in an inquisitive manner, “Were you expecting burnt human corpses, a huge pile of gold and jewels and an evil hideous dragon who was snorting smoke while sleeping on the pile?” she asked nonchalantly, setting the crown down on the bed beside her.
•• Blue-green eyes analyzed him intently, her expression giving nothing away. Dark hair and eyes combined with a muscled body was her first impression. He was much taller than her, about six feet and five inches to her five feet and seven inches. He was muscular too. But Zephyra was not phased. She looked small and delicate, only emphasized by her garb for it made her look more like a damsel in distress than a fierce and evil dragon, but Zephyra was a great deal more than she looked. She had a great deal of power behind her finger tips. All it would take was a flick of a thought and she could incinerate him. He was young looking and from her senses, she suspected he was not nearly as old as she was. She had two millennia under her belt already... she suspected that this intruder didn’t even have a century. That didn’t mean that she would underestimate him though. Power was not everything. A quick wit and a sharp mind could still defeat someone many times more powerful than you. She herself was proof of that.
•• He was gazing around the room and then moved his gaze back to her. She met his gaze levelly. She could tell he was tense and probably thought she was going to attack him. But she had no such plans at the moment. A typical question for her to ask now would be why he had come or what he was doing here but she wasn’t going to bother with such trifles. The answers were obvious - he had come to kill her. Her gaze took in his sword hilt protruding from the scabbard around his hips where his hand moved to rest on the pommel. He was pretending to be confident and assertive. It amused her. Good. He should be wary of me, she thought.
•• When he spoke once more, her gaze flickered to the crown and she shrugged, “Your point being? Many people own things that do not belong to them. The owner who had this before me forced a man to slave away to make this beautiful circlet for him to give to his wife. He didn’t pay the man a penny, probably forcing that man to be unable to pay for food for his own wife and children. Does that mean that this rightfully belongs to him? Well he is dead now and so is the rest of his family so this crown had no rightful owner when I took it.” Reaching out, she brushed a loving finger across the sterling silver before returning her gaze to the man. Slowly she unfolded from the bed, kicking her legs off over the edge of the bed and then slipping to her feet. Leaning against the bed post now, she eyed him, her arms crossed just beneath her chest.

[/b][/i] [style=font-family: times; letter-spacing: 1px; font-size: 9px; color: #cc3300;] Was he being a fool or was there more to this adventure he seemed to have volunteered himself for? He could not be sure, but he hoped that he wasn’t as big of one as he came around the corner and his eyes fell on a beauty the likes of which he had never seen. Kato took her in, head tilted to one side and golden flaked eyes appraising her slowly. Red hair, like flames and eyes that seemed to mesmerize you, but he couldn’t stare at them for long. He felt the pull to just keep looking and was quick to turn his head away from her with a violent shake. Kato had never seen anything quite like her and he would be the first to admit that. He’d seen his fair share of beautiful women, bedded most of them too, but this one was beyond that. She was striking and fierce, like a warrior and yet, as soft and lovely as any noble born woman. If he wasn’t careful, his mind would get so wrapped in these thoughts that he could end up finding himself charred and crispy or worse, a decoration for her home, if that was what you could call this place.
Leon watched her actions, eyes narrowed and suspicious as she sat there, legs folded up under her and his head shifted further to the side, brows pulling together uncertainly. This was not what he had been expecting or maybe it was. Kato had learned long ago that nothing was ever what it appeared to be and thus, it was best to always stay on guard in case more unexpected things happened. A grin, wicked and roguish turned up the corners of his lips and he lifted his arms in an almost dramatic gesture. “I never know what to expect anymore. Beautiful woman or horrible beast, nothing much surprises me anymore, the only thing I know is that I must always be on my guard.” Kato lifted a hand and tapped the side of his nose, his grin growing wider and colder. It really did offset his warm looks, that cold smile and he kept it on his face as he shifted from foot to foot, prepared to attack or take flight, depending on what the situation called for, even if she did seem more interested in that crown than him, but that could change at a moment’s notice.
As she watched him, he watched her, dark eyes taking in everything from the twitch of her muscles to the flicker of her blue-green eyes. Though she was petite and soft looking compared to him, he didn’t let that phase him and make him soften towards her, no, he kept his warrior face on, that cold, cruel, twisted smile in place. Apollo could feel the power that just flowed off of her in waves and he knew he would be ten shades of foolish if he ignored that indication of what laid just under the surface of her being. For all he knew, she could consume him in a single breath, force him to do things that he normally would never do. So, he remained on guard, eyes hot and cold all at once as they watched her like the threat that she was, though to anyone else, she wouldn’t look like much of a threat. However, Kato had long ago been trained in the art of looking for these little details, especially since he wasn’t normal. He wasn’t like everyone else and he never would be like everyone else, no matter how much they wanted him to be.
He was quick to start gazing about looking for exits and well, just in general looking; taking in everything she seemed to have here. It was odd to think of such a beauty living here in this dark, dank place. Then it hit him, this place wasn’t nearly as dark or dank as he would have thought it to be and that gave Leon pause as he quickly flipped his midnight and golden star gaze back to her, now he was clearly wary of her. Now he was curious. How long had she been here to make this place look as it did now? He didn’t have time to ask her that question though, this was no time for friendly conversation, at least not yet or ever if he really thought about it. She was dangerous and he was less so, at least as he was now and he was no fool. Kato was sure he would die here if he dared to raise arms against her. Though he was wary, he was not putting on any airs. He was confident and sure of himself, even if he was positive that he could never win in a fair fight against her, at least not now, maybe not ever.
Kato’s eyes lit up at her words, that playful nature of his coming out as he took a step further into the room, a warriors swagger to his steps as he moved towards her and yet, still maintained a respectful distance between them. “Ah, but it did. You could have given it back to the man who had made it, giving him the chance to sell it properly and feed those he cared about, but instead, you were selfish and thought only of yourself, taking it with a disdainful pride and thinking ‘it’s mine now.’ What a foolhardy thought and so unbecoming of someone such as yourself, even if you are a dragon, who covets beautiful things that are not yours to take.” It wasn’t his right to scold her, because Apollo could probably have admitted to several such similar things, coveting beautiful women as he had, even if he left their bed long before dawn and was typically never seen again, but this was different, this could have fed that man and his family if he truly believed her tall tale, which he wasn’t sure that he did.
