Rain tapped against the ground, a staccato rhythm to the thumping of the man’s heart. He walked through the drizzle of London and stared up at the sky aimlessly. No sun today and what a sad day it was, an anniversary of sorts. It had been many eons since that fateful day, the day he’d ripped the life of the one he loved away. Pity that he couldn’t get the memory to stop haunting him, half the time he expected her to appear before him, an apparition bent on making his life a living nightmare that would never end because he certainly couldn’t kill himself. Heaving a sigh, he dropped his head down, dark locks falling gently to cover molten gold eyes. Had the rain not been so drenching he probably would have taken to the air, just to clear his head, but the idea of sizzling flames did not appeal to him in the least. He scoffed inwardly at the foolishness that he seemed bent on placing upon his own head. He was soaked to the bone and not exactly wearing what you would call appropriate rain gear; a simple knit gray sweater and jeans, white undershirt and black boots. Well, at least the boots were correct.
The odd glance was thrown his way every now and again, but for the most part, Kato didn’t care. He was warm enough that even though he was dripping wet, he didn’t feel the cold, a perk of being a firebird, he guessed. Shaking his head to dispel some of the excess water, he shoved his hands deeper into his pockets and tried to focus on where he was going rather than getting lost in thoughts so ancient and old that they made him realize how old his soul really was. Did he even have a soul anymore? Could immortal creatures claim that they had a soul? He didn’t think so, but what did he know? He was just a non-human creature too powerful for his own good with a chip on his shoulder and a heart that seemed bent on not healing. The streets around him seemed empty and meaningless, but today was just that one day he didn’t want to remember. He knew that and yet, it always fell on him like a morbid weight every time this day rolled around. Snorting out a humorless chuckle, he walked forward once more thinking about the irony of this whole situation.
He was immortal, destined to remember the things that hurt him most and the things that he had done out of fear and shame. Drawing in a deep breath, he released it on a sigh and ambled towards a café. Kato didn’t take much pleasure in food anymore, he’d had it all and most of it was bland and boring, but right now? He didn’t care, he just wanted something to do with his hands other than stick them in his pockets and look like the hunchback of Notre dame. Brushing a hand over his hair, he shook off as much water as possible before walking towards the front counter and ordering black coffee and upon suggestion from the cashier, an everything bagel, whatever that meant, with cream cheese. It was a matter of moments before his stuff was ready and he took a seat, gazing out the window with his chin resting upon a large, scarred hand. What point was there to being immortal if the world got stranger and nothing gave much excitement anymore? Without taking his eyes off the world beyond the window, he took a slow, deliberate drink of his coffee, trying to sooth his nerves.
Then, it hit him. Life wasn’t boring so long as he made it interesting! It was the rain, it was this day, it was everything all rolled into one heaping cup of disappointment. Apollo laughed sharply, drawing startled glances his way, but he ignored them, not caring what they might be thinking about him. He leaned back in his chair and grinned wolfishly out the window, plotting what cruel jokes he could play on someone, idly tapping his long fingers against the edge of the tap, a rhythm that had several people who were close by leaning towards him to hear more of that finger tapped beat. It was odd, to think that people were so drawn in by the music he made, the poetry he spoke and the words he declared, but then again, he’d had many, many years to perfect these things and he enjoyed watching others become wrapped up in the magic that he seemed to be able to create without a thought. He slide his golden gaze towards the door and watched it for a moment before allowing them to once more stare out at the gray, washed out world before.

I'd be waking up, in the morning probably hating myself
And i'd be waking up, feeling satisfied but guilty as hell
