Fragile and soft are excellent ways to describe Skyler's appearance. His stature is remarkably short, his body weight is far from medically desired and lean muscle is hidden well beneath clothing. The illusion is aided by ashen hair that only lightens and darkens in varying degrees until he has a headful of natural highlights given by the sun. Bright but yet pale blue eyes are very rarely seen outside of a building and instead of shaded against the harsh sun by only the most stylish, name brand sunglasses money can buy. The sun, scoring a hat trick, also reeks pure havoc on his pasty, delicate skin and turns him a rather painful shade of red if unprotected. Luckily for his skin, Skyler typically chooses to keep himself covered against UV attacks and prying pervert eyes by wearing long sleeve shirts of neutral or earthy colours. He always picks jeans over shorts and refuses to wear a pair of jeans that don't fit snugly against him. As mentioned before, he constantly has sunglasses on his face when he's outside and the only way he's without them is when he's swimming or doing something that absolutely requires him to take them off. Just a typical human, yeah?
Nope! Hidden beneath the rather normal exterior there is a pixie who isn't all that different looking, really. His pale skin stays just as pale, his blue eyes stay just as blue and his ash blonde hair stays just that way. He doesn't miraculously grow an extra limb or anything. Nor does he shrink to the size of a tea cup. In fact, the only real change is the sudden appearance of frail looking wings seemingly sprout from between his shoulder blades. The way his ears draw to soft points aren't really a new development considering that it isn't so much a change as a constant addition that he hides beneath his hair when he's blending in amongst the normal. The wings that are typically hidden (through a ton of practice and stubborn determination) are nothing incredibly stunning and instead a quite plain translucent white with cool blue undertones that, in the event he was actually brave enough to take them outside, would catch the light and show through much stronger.

•• PERSONALITY ;;
One could easily, and wrongly, lump Skyler into the group of people who are just full of anger and rage. While his general response to any situation is to get irritated and therefore come off as angry, it isn't the only emotion that dictates how he interacts with the world around him. He's sassy and isn't afraid to throw a massive diva fit if he thinks it will get him his way. He's been spoiled with next to no real harsh correction from his father and so he doesn't take well to people telling him no. It brings out the competitive, stubborn side of him and, when he loses, it turns him into a seething ball of rage which simmers into a ball of angst. Sarcasm could easily be classified as his first language and he uses it in any situation regardless of it its socially acceptable or not.
While he tries to act like nothing bothers him and he lets everything just slide off, he takes criticism poorly and doesn't appreciate when people are just as blunt as he is. He, surprisingly, does have some sense of compassion but he very rarely wastes it on people who bother him and instead opts to spend it on the animals he loves along with the people he actually likes. Even though he can be dramatic and is more than capable of causing a scene, he doesn't exactly like to be the center of attention and would rather push it off onto someone else. Throwing people under the bus is one of his many talents and he does so without a trickle of guilt. He can feel guilty though but not when he feels what he did was right and for the best.

•• HISTORY ;;
his father shared with him that his biological parents had made the decision to put him up for adoption almost as soon as they found out they were pregnant. as luck would have it, gregory had finished the lengthy paperwork and screenings to be accepted for the chance to be an adoptive parent. many months went by and greg had begun to lose hope until he was contacted by a married couple in their mid twenties who had heard of him and were willing to meet up with him and see if he was the man he said he was. the meetings went well enough and with only the knowledge of the babys gender, he was soon a proud adoptive father to-be. the due date came and with it the baby who was promptly whisked from the room as was the biological parents' orders and settled with the new father. the new family returned home shortly when given the all clear from the hospital and skyler soon began his new life.
it became apparent to gregory, and vincent, at a young age that the blue eyed boy was much clumsier than kids his own age. they, however, thought that it was probably nothing serious and instead focused on methods of helping him to improve his balance. skyler had always been around the stables with his father since almost the day he'd been brought home but it was only until he had reached the age of six did he officially begin his riding career. it was a few months after he began riding that he had been walking through the aisle with his father and uncle that it became clear that something was very wrong with the young boy. gregory had brought skyler to see one of the newest foals born and after lifting him so he could see into the stall, he had asked if he could see the new baby to which skyler had promptly responded with an upset no. despite previously having not wanted to ruin the peace of the mare, greg ordered vinnie to turn the lights up and asked the little boy the question again to which he received a gleeful yes. a few more home trials were ran that night and an appointment with an eye specialist was booked within the week. the tests all pointed to the same signs and skyler was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa.
the diagnosis did little to change the slow growing boys routine. he still romped with the apprentice jockeys and learned from the stable hands. his dad was keen to grant his every request when it came to his riding and his uncle was the only trainer he would work with. his foul temper grew much more quickly than his body and by the time he was fourteen, he had ruined many chances for his father to have a happy love life. it was in the same year that skyler decided to leave home schooling that his father announced they were moving to a larger estate in Arizona and the then fourteen year old skyler threw a fit. in his over dramatic rage, he failed to notice the fact that the family dog was lurking just inside of his almost minuscule blind spot and tripped head first into the kitchen door. the next time he opened his eyes he was laying in a hospital room with stitches in his head and a throbbing headache but otherwise fine. he ended up going home the same day and grudgingly agreed to move to Arizona and leave the Texas town he knew behind.
the odd family settled into the new facility with little problems and soon skyler was enrolled, partially against his will, into the local riding academy. the majority of his time was spent on the school grounds until he reached the age of sixteen and convinced his dad to let him become an apprentice jockey. the apprenticeship went well enough and he kept his grades up for the most part. trouble had been an unavoidable thing but for the most part he didn't get into too much trouble. he once again chose to return to the academy for his final year of high school education and had to set aside jockeying until he was medically cleared from an injury he sustained from angrily punching a wall when he was told no.
he had a relationship and then he lost it, literally. the man he had met during his senior year suddenly disappeared without so much as a word as to where he was going or, even worse, why he was going. a few weeks of skyler's time was spend in sending the occasional text and even trying to call him before he finally resolved that the man wasn't coming back and he wasn't going to get a reason for why he left. ever. he didn't bother to try and see if he could find any signs of the mans departure because he didn't want to know that he had been far too oblivious to notice. instead, he focused himself into his career and his classes while shutting everybody out with enough aggression to scare small children, alarm the teachers and worry his family. graduation didn't come fast enough for him nor was it a relief from the nagging sense of abandonment that fueled his raging attempts at keeping everyone out. his father suggested a therapist, skyler slammed the door in his face. his father suggested just talking between them, skyler curled up in an arm chair and ignored him. the only relief from the constant thundercloud came in the form of the Arizona facility shutting down and returning to Texas. the return to his home state did wonders on his mood and after a few months, he was all but back to his normal self aside from the sudden aversion to dating and letting anybody he found acceptable back into his life.
the meteor showers came and skyler went on with his life. like most things, he pretended not to care. he watched his family worry about it all and he listened as they tried to talk to him to find out just how he was feeling about it but otherwise, he pretended nothing was going on. he blocked it out by sheer will power and continued on as normally as was possible. he heard the stories about people suddenly finding themselves less than human but, like with the meteor showers themselves, he wasn't concerned. after all, nothing could happen to him. his dad would make sure of that, right? wrong. he fell asleep one night without any sort of change and woke up the next morning with weakly fluttering wings. he was freaked out, to say the least, and responded by locking himself into his room for days at a time until he could be sure he was the only one home. he tried all sorts of things short of cutting the new appendages off to get rid of them or hide them from the people who were still normal and happy around him. for a few, long months, he took to painfully binding the wings under over-sized shirts and hoodies. of course, the wings made riding hard but the fact that he could suddenly understand everything his beloved gelding was saying to him made it even harder. the newly discovered ability soon grew on him though and unlike with the pesky wings, he didn't bother to try and repress it.
skyler enrolled in college much to his families pleasure and, much to his pleasure, he managed to work out a way to 'internalise' the pesky wings that made him so different. he didn't bother with really figuring out how the method worked and instead focused on testing its limits. once he was confident in his abilities, he returned to his almost normal self again and started not only college but also started volunteering at the library. his riding improved once more in both jockeying and showing. he was finally content with his relatively normal life despite the sudden twist in his plans.
