A yelp and a bundle of covers fell to the floor in a twisted mess. A dog, sleeping at the foot of the bed, woke with a start and let loose a surprised bark as it tried to make sense of what had just happened. The blankets upon the floor continued to move until a flash of flesh peeked out from the blue sheets. The dog that still remained on the lush carpet floor stood up and walked over to the lump. As a hand moved out of the bundle the dog came over and licked it. "Okay, okay, Jazzabell... enough. I need a shower but I don't need one that leaves me smelling of dog." a male voice grumbled and the dog, a German Shepherd, returned to her spot on the floor, though her brown eyes still remained on the figure. The hand pulled off the blankets and a man sat up, running that hand over his face, his blonde hair a mess. Sweat dotted his face, neck, and chest. A bad dream... something Boran didn't have too often, but when he did they were always about the same thing. The day of the meteor crash. The day Boran had lost his arm and almost died.
Groaning, he stumbled to his feet, his one real hand still placed on his head. Damn, that had hurt, he must have hit it pretty hard on the floor. Mumbling a curse under his breath he turned to the blankets upon the floor and, removing his hand from his head, bent and picked them up, dropping the bundle back on the bed though he didn't bother to fix his bed. With one arm? Hell no. He was still a bit shaky as he picked up the alarm clock on the side of his bed. 7:00 AM, an hour before he had to be up. To hell with it all. Boran walked around the bed to the dresser and opened up the top section revealing a stand, the glint of metal shinning in the dim light. Lifting it up he returned to his bed where he sat down. The dog, Jazzabell, jumped up onto the bed and laid her head upon the man's lap, her ears laid back. Boran briefly set down the formed metal, it bore the shape of an arm, and gently pat the dog's head before turning back to the arm. Picking it up he raised it to the empty shoulder that used to be connected to his right arm. "Another day..." Boran groaned and with a deep intake of breath he connected the arm. He had to clench his teeth to keep himself from crying out in pain. There were soft clicks as the arm connected itself with the sockets in the shoulder plate. Jazzabell whimpered, "I think that's getting easier every day..." Boran breathed and looked down at the dog who's ears perked up slightly and in a brief moment stared up at the man before jumping down of the bed and padding off.
After getting himself together, Boran stood up from the bed to get ready for a day of work. Starting off with a shower, one would think putting the metal arm in water would ruin it, but Boran made sure to make the seams water-tight. Afterwards he returned to his room to get dressed before going out to the kitchen and living room to enjoy a small breakfast in front of the TV. As the hour neared its end, Boran set off for the hospital. It wasn't the same one that had been struck by the meteor, of course not, this one was on the outskirts of the city for those who lived further into the desert. It was only 8 in the morning and already Boran could feel the heat of Phoenix, AZ already. Outside, the front lawn was lush and green, something you wouldn't normally see in deserts, but it was a miracle what water could do. It wasn't just grass though, a large tree sat in the center of the lawn providing shade and flowers and bushes dotted the area around the house. Boran gave a short whistle and soon enough Jazzabell came trotting out and into the fenced yard where she quickly trotted around the side of the house to the backyard. Boran then turned to lock the door and walked down the short sidewalk to the fence gate, which he opened with a lift of a latch and closed behind him before turning to the driveway where a white Chevrolet Malibu sat reflecting the sunlight off its cleaned hood.
Walking around the rear of the car he fiddled with his key ring for the correct one as he stopped at the driver's side. Finding it, he unlocked the car and climbed in starting it up and backing it easily out of the driveway. He chose his clothes wise today, slacks, thin, and a white long-sleeved shirt, but the pale flesh underneath was slightly visible, hung from his shoulders. His right arm, wrapped in cloth, though had work he hardly needed it as most of the staff knew, but he did it for the sake of the patients... and himself. The arm still brought back memories he'd wish to forget. Arriving at the hospital wasn't something to celebrate, it wasn't often, but sometimes, humans would arrive in the doors, claiming to have been wounded by strange creatures. Every time these people came in, Boran grew more depressed with each patient. Still, he treated them the best he could.
As the day went on, his shift neared its end. He met with a few of the other staff members, letting them know that should more victims come in to give him a call. Boran had become the go-to doctor for just about everyone there, he had also become good friends with them. With a final good-bye he left the hospital and headed to the staff parking lot to head home.

A blazing hot sun shone down upon the woman, who was lying face up in the alleyway, an odd place no matter what. Turning her head she groaned as every muscle she used protested against the movement, she was sore all over. Blinking against the bright sun she looked around, taking in how mere feet over from herself was a man covered in blood, laying there with two holes pierced into his neck quite obviously. Well this was just great, she told herself right before she noticed the only thing that could make things worse. A crowd had gathered at the mouth of the alleyway and nearby she could hear the blaring sound of the sirens of an ambulance. Seraphina groaned again as she laid her head down once again, doing her best to avoid particular attention, they couldn’t prove so far that she had done that to that man. At least she could hear his shallow breathing from where she laid, proving that her alternate personality, Gwyn, had at least stopped draining the man’s lifeblood before he died from blood loss, although that was still a possibility with how Gwyn had made the holes in his neck particularly messy and torn.
She had something called dissociative identity disorder, or multiple personality disorder. Seraphina’s one ‘alternate’ personality, Gwyn, was a rather cold bitch and didn’t care if she got in trouble or harmed others. Sera on the other hand actually usually gave a crap, especially since she wanted to someday get custody of her young daughter possibly, who was forcibly taken from her. In addition to having DID, Seraphina had educated herself for years to be able to research a cure for her disorder before being recruited to work on the vaccine to the recent mutations instead. However while working on this vaccine for the last while she herself had awoken one morning to find that she had a lower mady made up of a gigantic snake tail along with the fangs to match. She was what was called a lamiai, a half snake woman ‘demon’ with a penchant for draining the blood from others. However Sera luckily only had that particular desire when Gwyn was in control, when her Sera personality blacked out.
Soon enough she had a headache from the noise of the sirens and felt it as several sets of hands lifted her up and set her upon a gurney. As they moved her she felt a sharp tug in her midsection and winced just as she felt a warm sticky substance spreading over her midsection. Out of the corner of her eye she could see them lift the man iinto another ambulance, causing him to wake up. Instantly she heard him shouting that she had done this to him. However then the doors were shutting and they were off again, this time to a hospital. Sera was oblivious to where she was or even what day it was, not like she could have checked while laying in an alleyway and she blacked out whenever Gwyn had last taken over, only to return now. As the ambulance went to the hospital someone asked her if there was anyone to call and Sera was barely able to mumble out a phone number before passing out, only waking up when they were taking her out of the ambulance.
When she was wheeled into the emergency room she instantly could hear from somewhere the frantic shouts of the man that it seemed Gwyn had attacked however who knew what the truth was. Sera was pretty sure Gwyn had bitten him at the least and it wasn’t necessarily in self defense but Sera would do her best to get out of this. They wheeled her into a room and she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen again, causing her to scream from the sheer pain. It felt like she had been stabbed, which in fact she actually had nearly been across her midsection, the man had slashed a knife across her skin there. It wasn’t super deep but it was deep enough, quite wide, and bleeding freely, a gash along her forehead was bleeding as well.
As they worked on her she was able to catch the words ‘psych. ward’ as they murmured to each other. It sounded like they were planning to move her there once they had patched her up here, which would only make things worse for her in the long run. She wondered briefly why they would be sending her there, but then remembered that she had given the EMT her adoptive parents’ house phone number whiel in the ambulance. “W… w…. where am i?” Sera finally gained enough power to utter the few words. A nurse peered over her face, ”Ma’am you’re in Phoenix, Arizona… do you remember what happened?” Sera merely shook her head slightly in answer. Gwyn had traveled to ARIZONA??? But why? Well knowing her other personality it was probably just to mess with Sera and to have fun in a place far from home. Still she could hear the shouting of the man who had been brought in with her, she really hoped someone would shut the idiot up sometime soon, her head was pounding in pain by now.

Cold air blasted Boran's face, whipping his hair back. His hands held firmly to the wheel as he drove down the paved streets of Phoenix. His stomach grumbled only slightly, but it was enough to make him wish for a big sandwich to stuff in his mouth. The drive took maybe twenty minutes before he stopped in his driveway. Boran held two shifts at the hospital, one during the morning until noon where he had 3 hours to spend doing whatever he wished before he returned back later in the day to work until 10pm. Getting out of the car, he grabbed what few things he took with him, one of which was his cell phone which he always turned off in the car. Boran was one of those people who were strict when it came to using your phone while driving, hell, any multi-tasking at all in the car he was against. Be it eating, calling, texting, drinking... he wished he could be a cop, he'd stop everyone he saw doing that. One would be surprised at how many people come in to the hospital with injuries relating to car crashes. When you worked in a hospital, you saw the darkest pits of the world and those in it.
Pulling his keys out of his pant pocket he headed inside his yard up to his door. Jazzabell came barking from around the corner of the house, her tail wagging a hundred miles a minute. "Heh, come Jazz, I wasn't gone that long." Boran chuckled as he unlocked and opened the door, allowing Jazzabell to enter first before going in, closing the door behind him. He set his keys and phone on the kitchen counter before walking further in towards the fridge, pondering over what he could possibly have when his phone rang. Boran lifted his head out of the fridge and glanced towards it. "Hmmm..." he mumbled and closed the fridge door before walking over to the buzzing phone and picking it up. He saw it was from the hospital and quickly answered it. Pressing the iPhone to his ear, "Dr. Ross..." he replied as was quickly answered by a woman, "Matt we need you down here, two people came in just after you left, I've been trying to reach you but remembered you turned your phone off on the drive." "We're caring for the woman, but the man is constantly screaming about... strange things, I'm not too sure if it's true or if he's just frightened." "Alright, I'm on my way back." Boran answered and hung up. He snatched his keys off the counter and headed back outside to his car.
He arrived at the hospital within 15 minutes, shorter than before only because he got lucky with the traffic and the lights. As soon as he entered the doors, the same woman was there, waiting. "Julie." "Matt. Follow me." she answered and led the way down to the emergency rooms as Boran shrugged quickly into his uniform. "We've managed to patch her up, that was one deep wound, the man wasn't too bad off, just two... odd puncture marks in his neck." "Where were they found?" "In an alley, with each other. I don't know if one did something to the other or if they both had something done to them by someone else, but judging by the man's shouting, the woman started it." she explained as they walked swiftly down the hall before arriving to the room. Boran could hear the man's shouting through the door. He sighed, "Get me something to relax him will you." "Of course." Julie said and walked off quickly as Boran entered the room.

Laying there with her head pounding and full of pain, Sera quickly grew tired of the man’s excessive shouting. At first she clenched her eyes tight and tried to ignore it but found this method completely useless and opened her eyes, seeing a couple of medical stuff bustling about. She rolled her head to face the direction from where the shouting was coming from. “Shut… up…” the first time she murmured it it was merely a whisper. She was normally a rather quieter person but this required something a bit more dramatic than asking. Sucking in a deep breath of air she shouted back as loud as she could, her voice giving out right after her shout. ”SHUT UP!” Closing her eyes she rested her head back against the pillow and grimaced in pain as it radiated both through her head and her abdomen a bit. Well this is turning out to be such a pleasant day isn’t it?, she thought to herself sarcastically.
She laid there for several moments when she felt a firm grip take hold on her wrist. Her eyes snapped open immediately to see a man trying to strap her wrist with a restraint to the side railing of the hospital bed. Seraphina looked like a panicked animal and she very much basically was. Her eyes were widely opened, the whites clearly shone. Her body had become tense at the touch, ready to spring at any moment as if to flee. After a few moments Sera tried to jerk her wrist from his grip and frowned when he only tightened his grip on her wrist. That was when she finally began to thrash her body about wildly, trying to free herself from the grip and the threat of the restraint. The restraint was the worst part of the whole thing, too many memories were quickly dredged up to the surface of her mind.
Truly, she was usually such a relatively quieter and calm person, at least when it made sense to be. She normally wasn’t very violent when her normal personality was in control, such as now. Nor was she usually so quick to anger as she was now. She was furious that they would try to restrain her, the risk of her switching personalities at the moment was relatively low, especially after just coming back from Gwyn taking control, but of course how would they know this, she wasn’t thinking about that however. She hated the restraints, they had used them many times before but the most horrific was when they had taken her baby from her a couple of years ago. They had strapped her to the bed even while she had given birth. It was if she were reliving the event, the doctor’s decisions to never even let her hold her daughter or anything at all, she had been taken away as soon as Sera had given birth to her and Sera hated that fact every single day of her life. She had wanted to keep her child but they had deemed her ‘unfit’ just because she had been diagnosed with DID and since she lived most of the time with her adoptive parents they couldn’t adopt her daughter, Jami, either. And her adoptive siblings didn’t have the means to adopt a child at the time. Then of course later Jami had been adopted and they had eventually moved all of the way to London, feeling Sera somehow feeling even more empty. Seraphina had been allowed a visit with her daughter and her daughter’s adoptive parents once but the couple had been amazingly tense as if Sera would attack her child right there on the spot, she had never again gone back to visit with them after that.
She threw her other arm out, nails aimed for anything she were to hit, she could feel her hand latch on and claw at someone’s arm before she finally felt the blessed release of her wrist. She was free of the dreadful grip finally! But that didn’t stop her thrashing, she knew they would just come back and try to restrain her again and again so she continued to try to keep them away this way. For a few minutes Sera thrashed around and screamed bloody murder, trying to hit anyone and everyone she could, no doubt doing more harm to herself than anything. Afterall they had only just patched up her abdomen and she could feel it leaking substantially already again. But that’s not what finally got her to stop it was the tears that overtook her. Soon a different kind of shaking took her over as sobs wracked her body. She held her hands to her face and rocked her torso back and forth, attempting to calm herself down, to convince herself it was alright. However it wouldn’t truly be alright unless she could have her daughter back but she doubted that would ever happen. Taking deep breaths, slowly her breathing slowed down and she ceased the rocking just sitting there and crying as the memories ran through her mind, paining her.
No doubt the hospital staff would only think she was crazier now after that outburst but that wasn’t what was on her mind at the moment. Sera just wanted to get out of there at the moment, if she got a mark on her record such as assault or was reported as showing actions crazier than she had previously been observed being it would ruin all chances of having her child ever under her care. She truly wasn’t ‘crazy’ in the psychomaniac sense of the word. It was just this whole damned dual personalities that lived in her head that was the issue, the threat of blacking out and becoming someone else, her other personality, was seen as harmful. With frightened eyes she stared blankly straight ahead at the part of the room in front of her, spacing out.

When Boran entered, he came to surprising sight. "For heaven's sake, can't you see you're only making it worse. Enough. Leave her be." Boran ordered and the group around the woman's table dispersed. Julie, from earlier, returned to tend to the other male while Boran looked to the woman. He noticed the bandages already where being stained with red, but he made no motion towards it. He felt touching her would bring back the thrashing and screaming. He looked over the clipboard at the edge of the bed briefly, noting a few things before Julie turned, "Matt- "Go. I think I'm capable of looking after these two." Boran said swiftly and Julie nodded and left the room as instructed.
Boran turned to this woman and shrugged out of his uniform, he always felt that he could deal with people better without the white coat on. Pulling a chair up to the side of the bed, his uniform draped over it, he took a seat. "No one will harm you here, you have my word." Boran said, his voice soft and gentle as he draped his arms across his lap looking gently at the woman. He glanced down at his hands for a minute as he thought over his words. "What's your name? If I may know..." he asked. Yes... her name was on the clipboard, but why read the writing of someone else when you could just ask the person of that name who just happens to be laying right in front of you? Some of the staff here didn't agree with Boran's methods, but the man always seemed to prove them wrong in the end.
This woman was... interesting. Not just because of what was written on her clipboard, but just in general. He... sensed something odd about her. How, he couldn't quite put his finger on it, but there was definitely something. Was she one of those... infected? She didn't look like she was, though Boran hadn't met that many infected so he wasn't 100% certain if they looked how they really were or if they wore the human disguise.

When the people finally stepped away from her bedside Seraphina was immensely relieved. She slowly extended her legs again as she sat there, wincing as the movement pulled at the wound on her abdomen. Her eyes flickered down to the bandage for a moment, taking in the red that was slowly spreading across the bandage before looking up again and noticing the doctor that was now standing near her hospital bed. She wiped her fingers across her cheeks, roughly brushing the tears away.
She watched distantly as he removed the white doctor’s coat he wore and set himself down in a chair nearby. Sera nodded her head slightly at his words, ”J.. just… no restraints……. please,” she added the last word a bit belatedly. ”They used them to…” her voice broke off suddenly. It had just begun to spill out of her mouth but she didn’t have to tell him what had happened before. Besides it would probably only gain his pity, which she had had enough of over the years ever since she was a child. All of the pity and bullying that had and still did happen in her life was overwhelming. Even her adoptive sister hated her and took every opportunity to put Sera down. Pity was something she hated however when it was placed her way.
Sera sighed and looked at the doctor a bit curiously, doctors often treated her much differently any time she had to see one. Also she was trying to figure out if he believed what the man had been yelling about or not. Whether he thought she might be someone who was affected by the meteor showers, which was a dangerous thing to be these days in the United States. It was a hunter country and no matter your disposition all of those affected were targets for the hunters. ”My name’s Seraphina…” she spoke softly, answering his question. ”And what can I call you?” she replied, gaining a bit of her actual personality back. Besides all she had to call him at the moment was ‘doctor’ she didn’t even have a last name to tack on after that word or anything.
For a brief moment, Seraphina looked over at where the man who had been brought in with her was laying and sighed in relief. He had finally been given a sedative or something, something that had shut the man up. Put an end to his excessive shouting that was only making the pounding in her head all the worse. A pain hit her in the front of the right side of her head again and she winced a bit, pressing her hand to her head as if that would really do any good.

Boran listened quietly, taking in this woman's words in silence. As she finished and looked towards the other man in the bed across the room, he followed her gaze but his eyes didn't linger on the man who seemed out like a light. "No restraints, I promise." he said finally with a light smile. "Saraphina hmm? " he pondered. She had asked for his name, Boran had no problem giving it to her either. "Boran Ross. Everyone just calls me Matt though." he answered and realized that was an odd nickname to give to a man who's first and last names didn't even have the word 'Matt' in it. "My middle name is Mathew... hence where the nickname comes from." he explained with a slight chuckle. The door opened, Boran turned to look and caught the gaze of a doctor who seemed a bit surprised to see Boran just sitting there. Boran shook his head at the other man and as if by some silent communication the other man left. Boran sighed and looked at his hands for a moment before looking up at Saraphina. "Listen... I don't care about... your past, what you're classified as... what you may or may not be. You're in my hospital and you'll be treated like I treat everyone else." he said confidently and stood up slowly, he didn't want to risk scaring her as he walked to a locked shelf.
He pulled a ring of keys from his pocket and lifted one out of the bundle to unlock the glass door that guarded the contents of the shelf. He looked over the small colored bottles for the correct one before pulling it out and shaking out two small orange pills. "Here, Something for the pain." he said and turned back to the bed and offered his hand out with the pills in it for Saraphina to take. "They'll just dull the pain, they won't make you drowsy or anything, promise." Boran smiled. No doubt Saraphina tore a stitching or two in her struggle else the wound would not be bleeding like it was, he wanted to make sure she wasn't in any pain so he could fix it.

She nodded her head once, a brief up and down motion, as he told her that he wouldn’t use restraints on her. Sera noticed the small smile that crossed his lips and found it somewhat odd, personally she had never had a doctor smile when it came to her, but often they treated her like a degenerate, like she was less than a person. Most of them even made her bring in someone else with her to appointments and talked and explained things to them but not straight to Seraphina at all. Matt? Where did he get Matt from his name?, a quizzical look crossed her face as she wondered this but soon enough he had explained that it came from his middle name and she nodded in understanding. She offered a slight smile but it only lasted a few moments before she glanced around again, noticing that the other man was unconscious and they were the only two other people in the room. Kind of a relieving thought as all of the other staff, for the most part, had seemed to want to send her directly to the psychiatric ward.
For a brief moment she saw a man stick his head into the room however soon enough the man was gone again, without ever saying a word. When the doctor by her bedside, Matt, she reminded herself, it was easiest to remember that than his actual name. Anyways, when he looked up again she gently met his eyes with her own, watching him as he spoke to her again. ”Thank you… normally I’m treated rather… harshly… without a cause just because a piece of paper says something’s wrong with my mind.” she sighed softly and looked away for a moment, not wanting to see the pity or disgust that was no doubt in his eyes, as it was most of the time with just about everyone else who found out, everyone except her adoptive family anyways, well most of them, all except her adoptive sister, who hated and tormented Sera to this day still.
Reaching out, Seraphina took the pills that he held out to her and looked at the orange tablets for a moment before tossing them into her mouth and swallowing them. At least the pain should dull down soon, she thought to herself as she smiled slightly in thanks to him. Looking down at herself again she noticed that the bandage around her midsection was covered in red for a good part of it. ”That I suppose… is not supposed to be happening…” she mumbled softly, a frown crossing her face before she glanced up at the doctor again.
”So…” she wasn’t entirely sure how to approach the subject, she wasn’t even sure what had happened in that alleyway. Finally she just took a deep breath and dove into the subject head first, ”Doctor? Matt?” it felt odd using a name for a doctor and she hoped he wouldn’t be offended or mad over it, like many doctors might be. ”What exactly is known about what happened in the alleyway? Well, what do you know?” she asked him, wondering how much they had figured to believe from the other man or found evidence of.

Boran was silent as he watched the woman swallow the pills before he turned quietly to a counter to ready what he needed to fix Saraphina's wound. "Sometimes papers lie or are in other terms, misleading. I prefer to trust my own eyes rather than the eyes of others." Boran replied, now with the few things he needed he walked back to the bed, slipping on a pair of blue gloves. "You'll feel a slight pinching feeling, nothing to be alarmed about, just try to relax and... don't move." Boran smiled and carefully unwrapped the wounded area before turning to the needle to begin. "And you can just call me Matt, if you want to." he answered as he worked carefully, "As far as what happened from the alley, just what Julie told me. The two of you," he nodded his head towards the passed out man in the bed over though his eyes didn't leave where his hands worked, "Were found in an alley, you wounded, the other man with strange marks upon his neck. I also know he kept shouting words that said you did that to him, though... then it leads me to wonder... what happened to you." he spoke softly, his tone controlled, his expression didn't read clearly though as he seemed thoughtful but there was no judgment in his eyes.
"Whether this man speaks truth or false accusation I can't be certain, but it is not my place to be a jury. I am only here to help." he finished, not just with words but also the stitching. He then focused on cleaning the wound before re-dressing it. "There... just try not to move around so furiously the next time." he chuckled, only trying to be light-hearted. Turning away from the bed he tossed the bloodied bandages and the used needle away along with the gloves before walking around to his uniform, though he only picked it up. "Is there anything else that I can do for you before I go?" Boran asked as he began to pull the white coat back on, his blue nametag becoming visible over his left shoulder area.
